Our goal at Suruka is to teach men and women(16+) to walk through life more confident and capable, to take control and be ready for whatever life throws at you. Live healthier and become mentally and physically more resilient, tougher, fitter stronger and more disciplined. We aim to achieve our goal by going back to basics and teaching self-defence and functional fitness. There is no point just talking about resilience if it is not backed up by practical training. Resilience is not a trait that you are either born with or without. Resilience is learned, developed and nurtured.
Self-Defence combined with Functional Fitness will make you a capable person in any situation. People who know they are capable are calmer and more relaxed in stressful situations.
Self-Defence/Protection
Being able to defend/protect yourself and your loved ones is a desire that every man has and should have. And women need to be able to protect themselves just the same.
At Suruka we teach practical self-protection that will work in real life.
We start with teaching awareness and avoidance, and the psychology of violence.
Then we teach back to basics practical self-protection that will work in high stress, high violence situations when your body gets flooded with adrenalin and only allows you to use gross motor movements.
Learning and practicing to protect yourself and your loved ones, in any situation will boost your confidence in everyday life.

Functional Fitness
Get Fighting Fit.
Movements and Exercises that support and improve your everyday life. Highly adaptable to the individual.
At Suruka we want you to be healthy, strong, fit and build resilience from now and into your old age.
We will teach you ways and strategies to achieve this at home or anywhere you go. Doing your back to basics workouts, outside in any condition is the best way to build resilience, just like our ancestors did.
Consistency is the key.
You can build real strength and stamina that will help you perform better in life and stay healthy with just your bodyweight and/or minimal equipment, and training outdoors does wonders for your mental health. "Less is more".

The founder of Suruka, Matthias (Matt), was born in the Black Forest area of south west Germany. Matt spent most of his childhood roaming the hilly forest, under the guidance of his dad who taught him how to deal with harsh conditions and how to live, survive and have fun in the outdoors, which was a great resilience builder.
Early on in life Matt developed an interest in practical Self-Defence that actually works on "The Street". At age 16 Matt started working full time as a lumberjack, which greatly improved his strength, fitness and resilience. Later on Matt spent time in Canada where he learned to trap, track and hunt animals for food and improve his outdoor skills in extreme cold conditions, during the Canadian winter.
For a few years, Matt with his wife and 3 kids, lived in the very remote mountains of West Papua, Indonesia, where he worked as a bush helicopter pilot and gained valuable outdoor experience in the hot jungles and high mountains.
Because of all the time Matt spent outdoors and away from major population centers, he started to put together functional exercises and programs that he could implement anywhere without or minimal equipment.
In 2000 Matt came to Australia where he easily adapted to the very different outdoor and hunting conditions.
During his whole life Matt learned and practiced to adapt to different environments and situations and developed practical resilience and toughness, mentally and physically.
Matt utilized his back to basics functional fitness training everywhere.
Matt gained his qualifications and experiences in Self-Defence/Protection in the Civil, Military and Paramilitary worlds. And had to use his self-defence skills in many situations to keep himself and his family safe.
Matt holds a certificate III and IV in fitness and is a qualified self-defence trainer.

We run courses on the Sunshine Coast, Qld, in the Noosa area and the Glasshouse Mountains area.
We are also able to run courses/sessions at your property or location after prior inspection.
Self-Defence course, 3 hrs, $150p/p min 5 participants, Saturdays, 7.30am sharp. Or as per agreement
Functional fitness/Self-Defence Course, 3 hrs, $150p/p min 5 participants, Saturdays, 7.30am sharp. Or as per agreement
Bootcamp (hardcore) 4 hrs, $200p/p min 5 participants, Saturdays, 7.30am sharp. Or as per agreement
Private training, $100/1hr session/p/p, $70/1hr session/p/p for two or more participants.
We can come up with a course or training that suits you, contact us.
For special training (military/police/security/corporate,...) contact us.
All courses will go ahead, outdoors, in any weather once the course is confirmed.
Clients under 18 years of age need parental/legal guardian consent.
Courses/Sessions need to be paid in full before participation.
